Droplets Icons set
« on: December 11, 2012, 11:25:26 AM »
Hi Jacques,

Nice set of new Icons!!!
I like them.

However, there is only 1 icon for night forecast (= moon).
What about the rest?
We've gone through his with the previous set of icons when during night hours, the forecast showed a clear SUN.. :)
Any chance of adding the ones needed for the 14 hours of darkness we're facing right now??

Thanks,

Arthur

Hi Arthur,

Thanks for comments on this new set.
Yes this set is pretty "lean" and will need a "touch of love"
to develop it some more! As always, reactions is the main factor!
If users love it, sure I'll develop a "night kit"... and maybe a "Winter Kit"

Grzanka library has been "acclaimed"... and "growed" with time.
Aqua never lifted some significant interest
Droplet is new... then I wait a few!  ;)

Jacques

Hi Jacques,

I would like to second Arthur's point on extending the "Droplets Icon" set to include at least the "Night Kit"! :)
The "Winter Kit" sounds like a nice touch as well. ;)

Thanks again for the many hours you put in to develope all the various "Weatherbyyou" templates which gives many of us a great starting point to create some interesting web sites!!! :) ;) :)

Regards,
Joe

Hi Jacques,

Thanks for your reply.
I'm sure you'll 'tweak' the existing icons with some pretty 'Moon' adjustments..  ;)

We talked about the 'winter' icons in an earlier post (http://weatherbyyou.com/forum/index.php?topic=470.0) in which you mentioned there is a 'winterkit' for the Weather Blues template, however a day-one only.
Still keeps the discussion open that a 'winter forecast' will be tricky (Snow - Rain - Freezing Rain - A Mix of both, etc, etc).
For now, I'm looking forward to the new icon set, which I assume will take the existing Cumulus Forecast tags (1 - 26)???

Thanks,

Cheers,

Arthur

HI Jacques,

I came accross this icons set (http://voogee.deviantart.com/art/Grzanka-s-Icons-nr-2-44204272) from Grzanka, which actually shows Ice, snow and night (6 different moon settings).
Is this the set you're thinking of??

Cheers,

Arthur

Hi Jacques,

Me again  :)

I mentioned this before, but a 'winter-kit' will be very difficult to realize, considering the Cumulus (= Zambretti) forecasts are defined for Sun & Rain / Wind.
What to do in Winter, when we have a (Toronto-Ontario infamous) 'Lake-Effect' Snow Flurry forecast, or simply snow with Ice Pallets???
Should we 'modify' the actual forecast icon manually with a winter set or is there a way to 'fool' the Cumulus forecast with a 'Winter Adjustment'??
Tricky  ;)  ;)

Let me know where you come up with....

Thanks,

Arthur

Hi Arthur,

You're right! We've discussed about more complete version of actual
WinterKit icons set but without doing it... but I think the moment is... now!

Then, I've done a pretty complete set to merge with the Day/Night Forecast icons set!
You can see it there: http://weatherbyyou.com/icons_grzanka_winterkit.php

HI Jacques,

Those look great!!
Thanks.

Question remains, HOW do we 'fool' the existing forecast numbers (1 -26) when there is a forecast of Snow instead of Rain??
I can change the icons, however this coming weekend the forecast is rain (icon # xx.png) and next week the temp drops and the forecast is Snow (icon # yy.png)...
Is there a way to use the <#isfreezing> webtag in combination, so we can use the new icon (with snow) in case the temp drops below '0"...??

Thanks,

Arthur

Hi Arthur,

I've revisited  fastly the Wnter Kit to extend it a few, but I must admit that it is incomplete
and I'm not satisfied of it. Then I'm about to work seriously on  it these days and if things
are going good this week-end I'll launch an extended Day/Night icons set with 116 icons!

By now I'll offer 4 seasons Day & Night forecast icons set!

But to answer your wishes, I don't know (as Steve) how to forecast ice or rain in winter!
This depend on altitude layers temperature, hen nothing that we can solve with a calculation...
but if you find something in your "web crawling", I'll be glad to implement it"  ;D

Jacques

HI Jacques,

Sounds promising, a 116 icons...  ;)
Wauw, that's a lot!!!

I'm still thinking of how to change the Cumulus 'Rain' forecast into some Snow icons when it's appropriate...!!
Hopefully we'll have a winter like last year in Toronto, when I left my snow shovel in the garage the entire season  :)
Is there anything we can do with the <#isfreezing> webtage (in combination with the current forecast string??
Something like:
<img src="images/meteo2/forecast_<#isdaylight>_ <#isfreezing> <#forecastnumber>.png"
In other words, when the temp is at or below "0" (<#isfreezing> then instead of the 'RAIN' icon it should display the 'SNOW' icon..(change numbers)?? Similar to the <#isdaylight> webtag.....

Please let me know your thoughts,

Thanks,

Arthur
