Weather Blues v1.0 help
« on: January 14, 2015, 10:53:10 AM »
Hello everyone from Phillip.

Halesowenweather.PWS

I think I have to admit defeat I've tried for the first time in putting together my Weather Blues website but alas failed. As it's my very first time of doing this type of thing I've not done so bad working out how to ftp and upload the files so far to my own personal webspace via my ISP provider.

I can see I have the basic shape of the template and the station info is being uploaded here.
 http://www.halesowenweather.webspace.virginmedia.com/

But for the life of me I can't understand what I'm doing wrong in placing the files in the right place, so as to upload the weather blues template in all its glory. So I'm asking for help off anyone that can spare me the time, but remember this is my very first time I've tried to do anything like this, all I wind up doing after hours is getting confused.

From all the software and templates I've searched and viewed, I much prefer these at Weather by you, they all look clean and professional.

Thanks in advanced

Phillip.

Hi Phillip,

I think you're on the right way! But you haven't copied all zip content.
Just follow carefully instructions coming with your Template. In your zip file,
there are 2 folders WEB and INTERNET.

All content (files and all folders) of INTENRNET folder go to your website
(content of INTERNET folder, but not the folder itself),. Copy them with your
favorite ftp program  to your PUBLIC_HtmL or WWW folder (depend on your ISP)

Content of WEB folder have to replace files in your Pc, usually C:\Cumulus\web folder.

... then just have to configure Cumulus to tell your ftp configuration.

Easiest way to do this for a newcomer is to use the standard Cumulus Template,
then install Weather Blues v1 Template over it.

Hope this help!

Regards,
Jacques

Jacques thank you sir.

Once I read through your instructions I could see my mistake, Web folder I was copying the weather blues files to the cumulus web folder, not replacing them.

I deleted Cumulus and re-installed then, deleted the files in web folder of cumulus. Next I copy/pasted the weather blues web files into cumulus web folder.
Uploaded this up my root /htdocs/ and now see weather blues v1 looking how it should.

I still have to change the clock and location and maybe any other bit, like light blue background on pages Year and Records is not working right.

But I'm very pleased so far now with your help that I'm starting to look good.

Thanks you sir.

Phillip.

Advice please.

 http://www.halesowenweather.webspace.virginmedia.com/index.htm

Now that I have the template working to a degree, I'm still finding it hard to understand where to change the location and clock on front page.

Looking through the pages the, Today and Records are not quite right with the light blue back ground. Today tab the background is short and the Records tab
Looks like the Select Periods list should be horizontal not vertical, which should get the page show show correctly.

But how and where I have to correct this is well beyond me. this being my very first time of trying.

Thanks Phillip.

Hi Phillip,

For your clock, you could follow instructions on this page:
in section Setting the clock (the files are in folder js)

For your records page, a file is missing in your zip file,
so take a new zip file (I updated this morning) and copy
file records.css at the same place as style.css
on your website.

For other misaligned pages, I'm a bit mixed because
your pages look great with Firefox or Chrome,
but with most recent IE versions...  :P

Jacques

Great news thanks Jacques.

I'll try my best with the two files and I found the same, with Chrome all look good but the Records section.

Regards Phillip.

Your page looks good on Chrome 39.

I'm using the same template for my site, but have made some modifications in the past because I had some misalignments on several pages too.
Perhaps you can check the source of my pages and compare with your source.

Weatherstation De hout.

Sorry don't see a name.

I thanks you very much for your help, I'm not to bright on working out just how to change things with the files.
I think some of my reading are off due to not having the station set right from the start.

I'm just in trial mode at the moment as I've not yet set station in it's final place, just a temporary location for now.

Your webpages look very professional compared  to mine, I can't even find how to change the location and time on the clock, still shows Canada 5 hours behind gmt.

Enjoyed viewing your pages, your photo's are very nice view of where you live too.

I appreciate you taking time to view my poor personal site.

Phillip.

Hi Phillip,

No problem at all.
I saw you managed to set your clock at the right time.

Ready for the next step?

You can change the standard location showing left to the clock (St-Ours-sur-Richelieu
Québec, Canada) to your own location.
Open in the cumulus map the map called 'web'. Open IndexT.htm in notepad and search for 'Canada'. Around there you see the standard text which you can replace it with your location and country. Save and wait for the file to be processed and uploaded by Cumulus.

I hope my English spelling and grammar is a bit understandable. It's been a very long time since school. ;-)

Greetings from The Netherlands,

Derk

Hi Derk.

Sorry for late reply been very busy, thanks you very much for your help I'll look at that now and follow your nice instructions.

Images and about I'll look at afterwards, don't have a webcam to post live video so I don't have to work on that.

Thanks again.

No worries, Phillip. Take your time.

I don't have a webcam installed either. I would like to, but I don't have an idea where to place it.

I noticed you liked the Facebook page of my PWS. Thank you for that. It might help pulling some visitors to the main site.

Hi Derk.

I very much enjoyed viewing your PWS and your facebook page. inspired me to try harder, but all I managed was to mess things up.

Had to start all over again but now I have the wrong template installed, not much good at this coding stuff. With my age poor health and to much medication
I get very confused, I'll more than likely have to start over a few times before i get it right. lol

Still keeps me busy, take my time you say lol, that goes without saying I'm slow at everything lol.

Phillip.
