Title: Winter Forecast
Post by: avoorpool on October 07, 2012, 04:58:02 PM
Hi Jacques,

With Winter Weather around the corner (Winnipeg had 30 cm of snow this past week  :)) what are the options we have regarding a forecast image with SNOW...??
I don't see the Cumulus Forecast is "prepared" for a Canadian Winter with lots of the 'White Stuff', however do you have an idea how to 'force' or overwrite the existing Forecast and do you have an idea which Forecast Icon to use (there is also none of the Forecast Icons that have a Snow indication)..??

I've added a "new" Topic on my Index Page Bars "Snowfall & Snowdepth", however that will be depending on my manual input... ;D after shoveling the driveway  ;)

Thanks,

Arthur

Hi Arthur,

Yes cold season is coming... real soon! ::)

For icons, I'm already having available a WinterKit for current Weather Blues icon set.
But I haven't work on it to have night version; only day version available.

On Cumulus side,, when version 1.9.3 become official, I'll begin working with newest
webtag #isFreezing in test since build 1045. But maybe a "patch" for Php versions.

Then for Official 1.9.3 and cold season.. its a matter of time! ;D

Regards,
Jacques

Hi Jacques,

I've added the <#isfreezing> tag to my index page, just to see if it works. Named it "Frost Indication" under the 'Snowfall & Snowdepth' information and showed it as "0" or "1" with explanation of these numbers.
However, such an indication is great, but.............how do we diferentiate it if temp is below zero and there might be some drizzle rain, rather than snow??
I still think that a 'manual' interpretation will be necessary (depending on the 'official' forecast, if snow is in the air, or rain?? Agree?? :)

Cheers,

Arthur

Hi Arthur,

Yes, I'm not really excited about new #isFreezing webtag as it is meanless for "Weather" forecast.
This is only a "temperature" webtag indicating if the number  need to have a + or - beside it! (for Celsius)
(That's in part why I haven't jump on it yet!)

Since our Canadian weather have some caprice, it have to be more complex to be useful.
Sometime rain occur in subzero temp and snow over zero temp... without talking about icy rain!

Something exciting would be to find a formula to express this weather "caprice" in a mathematical way!
Kind of :f
IF forecast = precipitation
AND temp is below 0, but not lower then -5
AND humidity is greater then 80%
AND wind is "calm"

Forecast = icy rain!

But I haven't find any website with that kind of weather formulas!  >:(
But, one of these days.... :) I'll check that!

Regards,
Jacques

Hi Jacques,

Thanks for your reply (and the PM as well..!!)
For now, the winter forecast still looks like this I guess:

Go outside: Feel Wet -> Rain
Go outside: Feel Icy -> Icy Rain
Go outside: Get white dusted -> Snow
 :)  :)  :)  :)  :)

I think we have to keep an eye to the sky (and the Tv Forecasts) to add/change the settings as it occurs for Rain, Icy Rain or Snow in order to be most accurate......

Cheers,

Arthur

Looks like the winter weather here in Western Washington has come at least 6 weeks early.
