EC Forecast Script Missing Information
« on: August 27, 2012, 11:23:07 AM »
Hi Jacques,

I mentioned this subject slightly before, however in the mean time I did "some homework"  :)
The issue here is that the information obtained by the forecast_ecs.php or forecast_ecl.php is not conform what Environment Canada displays at their website.
The forecast.ecs.php (which I don't use) script produces the ec-forecast-en.txt file. Information found here is different than the information in the statio.xml file, produced by the forecast_ecl.php script.
Environment Canada issues 'Alerts', 'Watch', 'Warning' and 'Advisory' information.
Where does the script needs to be altered in order to display the information in Weather Blues the same as on the original Environment Canada website??
(Example in attached file does not show in Weather Blues script)

Thanks,

Arthur

Hi Arthur,

EC Forecast Short version (forecast_ecs.php) is a snapshot of EC page,
while Long version (forecast_ecs.php) use EC raw data to build it's page.

Then it's normal that page text aren't identical! Short page is using shorten text
while Long version use un-cutted text.

Jacques

HI Jacques,

For both my EC Forecasts I use the (long) version: forecast_ecl.php (Pickering) and forecast_eclto.php -Toronto), so there should be all info present I assume.

I also noticed that non displayed info on the original EC webpage, shows up on my page.
Above the today information, it shows in red: "Hot" (when we had +30 last week) or "Mild" or "Cool". Can't find this anywhere on the original ec webpage, so where does it comes from??  :)

Cheers,

Arthur

Hi Jacques,

Today's EC Canada Page shows the same message as on my website, using the 'forecast_ecl.php' script. (Hate to see this message  :'( after a great, warm summer!!!!
I'll keep an eye on other warnings, alerts etc from EC if displayed correctly using the script.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Cheers,

Arthur

Hi Arthur,

You're living in a real warmer place...
As I had to protect my tomato plants 3 time until now!  >:(

Happy long week-end!  ;D

Jacques
