Title: Weather Blues v2 - General Observations
Post by: avoorpool on September 16, 2012, 11:11:33 AM
Hello,

After my initial start with Weather Blues (WB) v1 some 3 month ago, I'm still running it for several reasons which I like to share in this thread after visiting and observing many WB v2 sites.
- Currently I have 29 pages on my site, and I realize it would be a massive operation to change each page into the WB v2 template  ;)
- Drop Down Menu:
The current drop-down menus in WB v2 are not aligned. It shows a bottom and right hand white line, not visible on the left of the menu.
I see many websites in general, using the drop-down menu, however mainly in a 1)Main-2)Sub-3)Drop-down Menu configuation.
With a large amount of pages, the current version of WB v2 requires a lot of back-and-forth clicking (and the visitors memory) when browsing through all pages.
I've kept the Main-> Sub menu approach where all available pages under 1 [Main Menu] topic are instantly visible in the [Sub-Menu] and accessible, giving the visitor a direct overview of 'what's there'...
-Language Selection:
The addition of the language selection in WB v2 is definitely a big ++
However, I noticed that when changing pages the visitor each time has to re-select the language. Even when a default language is set but language is changed, it returns to default and the selected language has changed.
Is it possible to keep the once selected language for all pages during browsing the website?

Just a few thoughts (until I probably will be 'forced' to switch at some point in time to an entire PHP version  :)

Cheers,

Arthur

Hi Arthur,

- Drop Down Menu:
The current drop-down menus in WB v2 are not aligned. It shows a bottom and right hand white line, not visible on the left of the menu.
These lines are "shadow effect", maybe an other color would be better to demonstrate its effect

I see many websites in general, using the drop-down menu, however mainly in a 1)Main-2)Sub-3)Drop-down Menu configuation.
I dislike many level menus as they aren't good for tablets and other hands pointed devices
and sometime difficult to point on 3rd  level item with some mices.

-Language Selection:
The addition of the language selection in WB v2 is definitely a big ++

Language selection IS remembered from page to page, with a little exception on Environnement Canada pages offered only in 2 main Canadian languages (French and English). Then I have to refine these pages  to correct this bug! (Future EC-Radar page is already on test with this feature)

Cheers,
