Title: File Upload new Server
Post by: avoorpool on July 05, 2012, 05:40:19 PM
Hi Jacques,

Hope you're doing fine!!
I've had a look at the iPage, and it gives a clear overview and plenty of extras for a $86 deal for 24 month.
I want to change webhost next week. I've had a look at the directories, but one thing is not overly clear to me, and that's where to upload my directories and html files.
I've attached the structure of my current webhost, and all directories and files are uploaded into the [public_html] server directory.
Which directory can I use in iPage, to upload all my files at once?? (copied from 000webhost.com)

Thanks,

Arthur

Hi Arthur,

You are correct, ALL files in public_html is your site's file!

First step, you don't have to "transfert" your domain, as you don't
want to keep the "host22.com" domain ("altonaweather" was
a subdomain of host22. and subdomain aren't registred)... then
doesn't need to be transfered. You need to "buy" your domain
name (ex. altonaweather.com), this will give you an ftp access
to your site (ex. ftp.altonaweather.com)

Second step: As I told you, you have to take all files contained
in public_html of your current site and transfer them to your Pc.

Third step, you have to take inverse "road"; take all you copied
files in step 2 (on your Pc) and send them with your ftp program
to your new domain's public_html folder.

Finally, your site will exist on 2 places. then you could close
host22 account, or keep it to redirect visitors to newer site!

Regards,
Jacques

Hi Jacques,

Thanks!! This makes sense to me!! Clear explanation.
Since it's a free site (000webhost.com) I think I'll keep the redirect function it offers while in the meantime I'll send messages to people who often visit the site for their local weather updates.
I checked on your EC update page and it rally looks good (the new one - re-directed).

Have a great (warm) weekend (Toronto expects a record today with +36 - Humidex +45)......

Warm Regards,

Arthur

Hi Jacques,

Thanks to some good advise (yours!!), my "new" web-address is up-and-running (smoothly).
Since long, I can finally display the NOAA page within the Weather Blues template!!!
Easy to work with (iPage).
Next step is some Realtime additions (I hope  :D )....
Site: http://www.altonaweather.ca (http://www.altonaweather.ca)

Hope all is well with you,

Warm Regards,

Arthur
