Fire Index Ontario
« on: May 29, 2013, 11:34:22 AM »
Hi Jacques,

I'm following with great interest your development for the Chandler-burn Index.
The icons look nice.

However, where does the information comes from??

I've an Air Quality page that fetches data directly from the "Ontario Air Quality" web site.
There's a similar website from "Ontario Natural Resources" which displays the "Fire Index Map" (see: http://www.affes.mnr.gov.on.ca/Maps/danger/dangermap.html)

Is there a script (or are you working on it) that can be used in the same way as the Air Quality one???

Thanks,
Arthur

Hi Arthur,

Sorry, I'm working on calculations to generate CBI, FWI and others.
So, I don't copy any maps or images for that newest page.

I've worked on Chandler Burn Index, but since it takes into account
only humidity and temperature, its forecast is a bit inaccurate. CBI is easy
to implement as it need only 2 informations and only for the current day.

FWI take into account data from the current day and yesterday, so calculation
is more accurate and have many more data to forecast this index.

Finally, I've found the original book to explain these index, but a thing that is
not real right today: Originally these calculations takes in account that the
"hotest" time of the day is at noon. But in my station, temp peek is around 3/4pm.

So, as you see nothing copied from official source... you'll have to put back your station ;-)

Best Regards,
Jacques

Hi Mike,

All this module will be in Php and a file will be to be processed
by Cumulus to have right data for fire forecasts.

You could look at this link to see a bit what is my goal:
