Weather Blue V2 Gauges
« on: December 19, 2012, 03:38:34 PM »
Hi,
I have just started to put together my website using the Weather Blue V2 template but I'm having a problem with the gauges page. It's using the gauges from Cumulus and not the template images.

You can see what I mean by looking here http://www.abzweather.info

If someone can point me in the right direction that would be great.

Thanks,
Harry.

Hi Harry,

Your gauges are weird becase these gauges are from Cumulus main screen
and since they are copied as a 'printScreen' graphic, any changes in your
video mode (like chars zoom) will produce that kind if 'strangeness'

Cheers,
Jacques

Hi Jacques,
Thanks for the reply, Got it fixed now. I use a notebook to run Cumulus etc. and the screen resolution was 1024 x 600. I have changed this to 1024 x768 and restarted Cunulus and I think it's done the trick.

Thanks and Regards,
Harry.

Hey Harry,

Glad you worked it out with the Gauges.......Looks good!!

However, I'm curious to know about your chosen name  ;D
Coming from Holland, I thought there was only 1 "Flying Dutchman"..??   :))
Never heard about a "Flying Scotsman"  :)

Cheers,

Arthur

Looks good to me, and you at least have it running.  I have only got as far as

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ':' in /home/a1088569/public_html/wt_data_inc.php on line 343

I have not had chance to make any settings to Cumulus today as intended as the house boiler broke down and that took all my time up today, but even so I expected to see the webpage after loading the template, even though it was not getting info from my weather station.

Hi Arthur,
Well it goes somthing like this:
Colin McRae, the late famous Scottish rally driver was known as the Flying Scotsman. I also have a passion for motorsport and fast cars.
For many years I have also been flying radio controlled helicopters and planes and being Scottish I thought it fits well !!

There is also the famous fast steam train The Flying Scotsman, but I'm not into trains  :-X

Cheers,
Harry.

Well I have now given up. I have reloaded the files more times than I care to think about now and I am getting nowhere with it. I would have liked to have got this file set working but life is to short to keep trying. Glad you managed to get yours up and running, but for me the best I can muster is the error code. Looks like I might have to make do with sticking to sites such as Weather Underground for now.  :(

Hi Angry,  :P
Sorry that you have problem with that!

As we could see, you have not processed data file! wt_data_inc.php need to be
processed, then send by Cumulus as indicated in the installation sheet.
See bottom of this page: http://weatherbyyou.com/wb_install.php

Regards,
Jacques

Hi, thanks for the reply. I like the way you have changed my name from Hungry to Angry, made me laugh. I have tried to do the files as per instructions but not quite there yet obviously. I am in a better frame of mind today, far too much Christmas shopping and stress yesterday! I will get this right, I am must be missing something really simple. Hope everyone has a good Christmas and a happy new year, now the world seems not to ending at the moment.  :)

Update. I have just been on the Cumulus Wiki and it says, quote: 000webhost.com (don't allow realtime.txt in free hosting). Guess who I have gone with. Not saying this is the sole reason for things not working but I am sure it does not help.  :(

Hi my friend!

I'm happy that my joke has put a smile on your face!  ^-^
With computer there is a lot of reason to "lost our patience"
but weather broadcasting is a question of patience! But I must
agree that I've already "put my feet on the garbage can, roughly!"  :))

For the realtime problem with free hosting, I don't think your affected by that
if you don't tick realtime on your Cumulus configuration. It is useful if you want
to be really fast on delevering weather updates... or if you are using some kind
of enhancements as the SteelSeries Gauges library

Then, as singers said... "Don't worry... be Happy"!   :)

Happy Xmas!!

Cheers,
Jacques

Well things are on the up! I got it going at last and all it needed was a good kick and a few choice words uttered at just the right time. However not just there yet as I have an issue with the gauges and graphs as they are not reciving the data from Cumulus. Now I know it will be someting I have not done, that kind of goes without saying, but I am now a little stuck as I can't see the missing step. HELP!!!  :o

Hi,

As I said, we have to check mainly 2 things:

1 - Check your Cumulus configuration.
In Cumulus Main Screen: Configuration --> Internet --> Files tab
Is the box "Include Standard Images" ticked??

2 - If you check in you website with your FTP program
In the folder where your site is, you have a folder "images"
In it you're supposed to have quite a few Cumulus images
Gauges to check are compass.png, windgauge.png and windrose.png

- Are these images have a timestamp according to the current time (or near)?

If you do a manual update (Cumulus menu File --> Web Update) you are supposed
to see a lot of messages and lasts are about "Sending graph files"... do you see them?

- I you check back to your FTP program, are the image timestamp changing??

If timestamp don't change, it is caused by the way that your provider accept
file "renewal" (replacement). There is quite a few way to handle these updates,
basicly, there is 3 way used:
1 - Simply replace file (copy over existing file)
2 - Rename older file, copy new file and delete older one
3 - Delete older file and copy newer one (cause no "crash" between old and new)

First way, try to play with permissions

If your gauges file dates have not changed, try to delete them and do an other manual update!

If new gauges are ok with new timestamp, see "permissions" for these files, try 666
(usually, your FTP program could do it when you take "properties" with mouse right button)

Second way, change Cumulus file update configuration

In Cumulus menu Configuration --> Internet --> Sites/Options tab --> Web settings frame
The first 4 boxes are for handling "hard to replace files", try to "play" with them.
 - Auto Update
 - Use FTP active mode
 - Use FTP Rename
 - Delete before update

There is the way to solve your problem!
Try one step at a time and notice changes. Try to work with your FTP program
to check if time change on your gauges files

- Dont forget to press F5 / CTRL-F5 in your browser window to be sure
that you are not "trapped" in a cache renewal problem!

And most of all... be cool... it's Holiday!  8)

Best regards,
Jacques

Thanks for the reply. Now apart from the fact the site has disapeared, which may be a server issue so I will leave it alone for tonight and see if it comes back online tommorrow (fingers crossed) I think I have found out whats happening to the guages and graphs. The host is being updated with the info from Cumulus but the data is not being put in the /public_html/images folder and it is being uploaded outside of the public folder in the root section. The next question is, yes you guessed it, how do I get the files to point to the correct folder.

Hi Jon,

You will have to guess it! I'm not really a Pro about 'hosting' and each provider
are different! Then try your best... often it is a problem of leading '/", then you'll
have to do experiences! But first look with ftp what folder is used (public or public_html....)

If your ftp acces is a kind of: ftp.bayweather.co.uk
(You are probably at the 'root' as we don't see folder at end of your url, ie /weather)

Then try these (if you have see "public" as folder, with your ftp program) :
public/
/public
/public/

not very often, you have to specify a long url:
/domains/bayweather/public/

But a thing, in Cumulus, you enter things like that:
Hostname: ftp.bayweather.co.uk
Directory:  public/   (or any variant)

Hope this help

Jacques
